THE STREETS OF AUCKLAND.

TO THE EDITOR.

Sir, —Your correspondent "M." is mistaken with the purport of my letter of the 30th ult. Were he to read it over again he would 'find "that I "do hot complain of tbe want of "broad asphalted paths, crossings,-''<fcc.;, in this On the contrary, with'.the; ex? ceptipn of that nyesore in the very heart of the city—viz.; Victoria-street East—l tliiuk

wo are very well off in that respect. What I do find fault with is the want of cleanliness in many of the street's, more especially in Queen-street, during the wot weather. The mud is allowed to lie so long that the whole ttreet, crossings included, becomes a perfect quagmire before it is removed. Thin morning was dry and fine, and the men were again at work sweeping and cleaning. Why cannot this bo done in wet weather as well ?—I am, &c., Resident. Auckland, 3rd August.
