The barque Eapido clears this morning for Kew York with 2515 cases and 54 bags kauri gum. The inquiry before the Resident Magistrate relative to the collision between the North Shore ferry steamer Tainui and the schooner Christine will be held when the latter boat arrives in port. The s.s. Argyle left for Whangarei at 5 o'clock yesterday afternoon. The TJnion S.S.-Co.'a s.s. Arawata arrived from Sydney about 11 a,m. yesterday, and proceeded to the quarantine station. Wh aro indebted to Mr. , D. Dalgleish, purser, for latest fi!e3 and the following repert: The Arawata left Sydney on the 27th ult. at midnight, and experienced fine weather throughout thu ps»sage. She will probably be released on Saturday, but that is a matter that has not yet been definitely determined. She will, however, leave for Sydney about Tueaday. The schooner Fetu Lele sailed for Samoa last night. The ship Ashmore was berthed on the inner side of the eastern arm, outer tee, Queen-street wharf, yesterday. The TJnion S.S. Co.'s s.a. Eotomahana returns from Eussell this morning. She leaves for Melbourne, via Southern Ports, at 10 a.m. to-morrow.

The s.s. Oreti is announced to leave for Gisborne and Napier about 3 p.m. to-morrow. H. 11.5. Emerald, from the South Sea Islands, returned to Sydney on July 25th. The ship siiled hence on April 20th, with orders to visit several of the islands of the South Pacific that had not been visited by an English man-of war for several years. On the passaga to Suva on Blay 2, a seaman named Frederick Luming fell from aloft, struck the davit guy, and then went overboard. A boat was speedily lowered with a view of picking up the body, but though the crew pulled through the blood-atained water, nothing whatever could be seen of the unfortunate seaman. The Emerald after touching at Suva, steamed to the Ellice Group, and found everything quiet at TTeni, Lynx, and St. Augustine Islands. From thence vent to the Gilbert Group, and fixed the position of Botcher Island, which wrs marked "doubtful" on the chart. A German trader, to whom the natives of Maiana were showing hostility, was removed from Maiana to Api&ng. Called at Taritari, or Touching Island, and, finding the natives quiet, went to Musgrave Island, in the Marshall's Group, arriving there on June 8; touched also at Caroline and Fanofill Islands. Steamed from thence through the Solomon Islands, coaling at TJgi. Left there on July 13, and had steady S.E. winds to Sand Cape; variable winds to arrival. The Sydney Morning Herald of July 27 says :—" The Emerald will remain one month in this port, then proceed to New Zealand, where Sir Arthur Gordon, High Commissioner of the 'Western Pacific, will be embarked, and make a trip to Fiji, Tonga, and other places."

She left again for Waitara at 2.30 p.m. yesterday. . The s.s. Rowena should arrive from Hokianga oarly this morning. She is announced to leave again at 1 o'clock this afternoon for Waitara. ; The S.S. Lalla Rookh is announced to leave for Waitara at 2 p.m. on Friday, and the Hannah Mokau, for the same place, on the following day at the same hour.
