TAWHIAO IN WAIKATO.

[by telegraph.—own correspondents.] Ngaiwawahia, Tuesday. The King, Rewi, Major Mair, and party are now leaving here by train for Mereer. Mercer, Tuesday. Tawhiao, with full 500 followers, and Major Mair, arrived here by special train of fifteen carriages this afternoon. Near the tunnel all alighted except Major Mair, who proceeded to the township to see to the arrangemeL'vS. Tawhiao, accompanied by Major JarUson and party, were welcomed by the Lower Waikatos, some quarter of a mile past Mercer, where food was preparing. Numbers have returned here, Tawhiao among them, for lodgment touight. The King was exceedingly pleased with his first trip by rail, frequently expressing his surprise at the work of the pakeha, and saying that it was the most wonderful canoe he was ever in. Tawhiao, with Rewi, Wahanui, Henare Kaihau, and other leading chiefs, dined with Major Mair at the Railway Hotel. They remain here to-night, and likely to-morrow, as a present of food is getting prepared for them. .
