PARNELL BOROUGH COUNCIL.

The fortnightly meeting of the Parnell Borough Council was held last night. Present: The Mayor (Mr. J. F. Clarke) in the chair, Captain McKenzie, Messrs. Winks, Walker, Mullins, Barber, Davis, Wood, and Skinner.

Powder Landing Ground.—ln reference to the protest against landing powder and explosives in the borough, the secretary of the Harbour Board intimated that the matter had been referred to the Works and Endowment Committee.—Letter received.

Public Works Act.—A circular was received signed by Mr. Benzoni, assistant under secretary for Public Works, re taking lands for public works and forwarding certain information on the subject and method of acquiring those lands.—Received, and the circular to bo filed for information.

Engineeb,—Mr. W. D. Campbell submitted himself for the office of engineer to the Council, and attached a statement of the various works he had been engaged on.—The Mayor said no doubt if they wanted a surveyor they would advertise in the usual way. —The letter was received.

Defective Drainage.— Mr. Talbot wrote calling attention to the drain from a neighbour's property. He had called the attention of the Inspector to the subject, but no steps had been taken to abate the nuisance. —Referred to the Inspector of Nuisances.-— On the motion of Mr. Walker, it was agreed to instruct the Inspector of Nuisances to attend tlie me ain the Council, so that he might \nswer questions and receive instructions.

■ Accounts.—Current accounts were passed for payment. The amount was £82 5s sd. Foreman of Wobks.—The report of the Foreman of Works on works at present, in progress and completed wae read and .received.'
