LAW AND POLICE.

SUPREME COURT.— Judge's Chambers. Friday. : [Before Mr. Justice Gillies.] His Honor eat in Chambers yesterday, and transacted tho following business :— EEaisTnATios.—Ordcre were made to register the eopy of will in the cases Paulina Goodman, George Hanis, C. H. Schn&ckcnberg, G. T. Chapman, and J. Chilman (deceased).

Land Transfek.—Mr. Browning applied for an I order under the Xand Transfer Act, directed to tho District Registrar .of Deeds, to register a transfer of land from Hcnheu, an aboriginal native, to Q\ Alorrin and others. The case came before Hia Honor at the last sitting In Chambers. His Honor took time to consider his decision, and yesterday gave judgment as follows :—I have given careful consideration to the terms of section S of tho Native Lands Act Amendment, Ho. 2, 187S, which says, that "Trustees appointed under either of the said Acts shall have the same powers to deal with private persons for the sale or lease of any interest so held in trust by them, as they have in cases whero the Crown is concerned." The language is no vayuo that I cannot conjecture its real intention, if indeed the draftsman had any; at any rate, I cannot construe it as an implied repeal of tho definite enactment of tho Act, 1867, requiring the Governor's assent to leases by trustees. Cause shown by Registrar will therefore bo allowed, and application dismissed. Attachment of Debt. —Mr. Browning applied on behalf of Sargood and Company for an order to attach a debt due from the defendant in tho action, Palmer v. Bruce, to the plaintiff. The debt was the subject of a vordict and Judgment in favour of the plaintiff.— His Honor said that as the debt was not disputed, there was nothing to prevent execution issuing under tho 12th section of the Law Amendment Act of 1850.

DISTRICT, COURT.—E'eidat. 1 • [Before J. E. Macdonald, Esq., Judge.) lleaks V. MacKinnox.—Mr. Tyler for tho plaintiff, Mr. S. Hcskoth for the defendant. This case was part heard at tho previous sitting of the Court. The actiou was brought to recover £31 (odd) upon an account'stated. Tho defendant-put in a set-off for £130, abandoning the £30 in excess of the jurisdiction of the Court, but the Court held that this could not be done by a defendant. Yesterday this defenant was examined, and his brother, Angus MacKinnon, was also examined. Both witnesses deposed to several items of account between.the plaintiff and the defendant. The case Itself presented no features of public interest, and occupied the greater portion of the (lay. Messrs. Townsend and Stevens, surveyors, gave evidence as to the area of land, ploughed. His' Honor said thero wore not materials for a judgment upon an account stated. Mr. He3keth askiid for the defendant's costs. His Honor said the costs would follow the nonsuit in the ordinary way. ;
