The Argyle returns to Whangarei at 5 p.m. to-day. , The Union S.S. Co.'s s.s. Kotorua left for Melbourne, via Southern ports, at 11 n.m. yesterday.

The B.s. Glenolg arrived from Tnuranga yesterday morning. She bronght 303 sacks maize, 3 pigs, and about 5 tons sundries. The Glenelg returned thither at 5 p.m. I Tho schooner Onward arrived from Lyttelton yesterday afternoon. Captain Smith reports :— Left on'the 18th July, with wind S.E.; .moderate till 8 p.m., when the wind increased to a heavy gale from the S., with rain and thick weathsr; at 9 a.m. blew away the squaresail, compelling as to heave-to; at 6 p.m. the same day bore away again. On the afternoon of the 20th wore obliged to come-to again for wind and i;ea. On the morning of the 21st, the wind and iiea going down, bore away for. the E*st Cape. The brigantino Camille arrived from NeV York yentorday morning, after a passage of 115 days. The master reports that she left New York on the 4th of April last, and during the Toyage ha 3 encountered some very dirty weather. The achooner Nerval arrived from the Islands, via Noumea and Norfolk Island, yesterday afternoon. Captain McLiver reports:—Left Norfolk Island on the 18th of July, with wind at we3t. On the 21st of Jnly had a very Heavy gale from the S.W., with very confused sea on, it lasted till the evening of the 23rd of •July, when it moderated down to fine S.T7. and V?. winds till arrival.

Captain McLiver, of the Norval, supplies the following :—The missionary achooner Southern Cross arrived at Norfolk Island from Auckland on the Bth of July, and left again for the Islands on the 12ch of July; also, the schooner Opotild arrived on the 3rd of July, from Auckland, and was at the Island loading for Noumea when the Norval left. I LAUNCHING OF THE S.S. MCGREGOR. The s.s. McGregor, built to the order of the partnership of gentlemen now merged into the Northern S.S. Co. by Messrs. McCallum and McQaarrio, was launched yeeterday morning, at 8.30 o'clock, in the presence of a large conconrse of spectators. She glided off the stocks into her future sphere beautifully, increasing her speed gradually, as if hastening to enjoy an anticipated pleasure. As she began to move Mrs. D. B. Cruickshank broke a bottle of champagne on her bow, and named her the McGregor. She was built specially for trading between OnenungA and Waitara, is of shallow draught, and about the samo eize Glcnoig. Her dimensions are: Keel. 333 ft. Gin.; overall, 140 ft.; breadth overall, 21ft. Oin.; depth of hold, 9ft. The engine is a compound surface "condensing on<>, 50 h. p. nominal, indidicating*23o h. p. She is now in the hands of Messrs. Rowena left on Wednesday afternoon for Waitara. She will probably return from thence some time to-day,, and is advertised to leave for Hokianga, at 1 p.m. to-morrow. The s.s. St. Kildais expected to arrive from Waoganui early this morning. She ia announced to return thither at noon to-day. The B,i. Lalla Rookh steamed for Waitara, via Baglan, at S a.m. yesterday, with a full general cargo. She is announced to return thither nt noon to-morrow, and on Monday will sail for Waitara at the same hour.
