CROWN LANDS BOARD.

The regular meeting of {lie Crown Lands Board was held yesterday. Present: Mr. j>. A. Tole, Chief Commissioner, in the chuir, Messrs. J. May, W. P. Moat, and J. 0. Firth.— The minutes of last meeting were read a'ad confirmed. Additional Cuown Lands. — The Chairman announced that since tbe last ireeting of the Bourd an addition of 201,130 ucres had been, made to the provincial estate. The lands were situated in Waikato, Kotorua, Taupo, Matata, Tauranga, and l'overty Bay. By next meeting he hoped to have plans and reports-ready to lay before the Board.

Reserves.—The Minister of Lands wrote, forwarding Gazette notices of certain reserves made for ferry, public-hall, and other purposes, as recommended by the Board.

Lettee op Thanks.—The secretary of the County Council forwarded a letter from the County Council of Wairoa, thanking the Board for their recommendation of the ferry site at Frazertown.

A Substitute.—Mr. Ludwick applied for permission to appoint Mr. Shaw his substitute on his homestead selection at Tapu.—The Chairman pointed out that the Board had no power to accede to the request, and that the land, if surrendered, must be put up to public competition.

Papaboa.—The secretary of the Road Board asked to have roads to the homestead sections recently opened properly surveyed, &0., pointing out that the local Board was not in a. position to do the work.—lt was agreed to inform the applicant that the Lands Board had no funds for such a purpose.

Mineral Licenses.—Adam Porter applied to the Board for permission to prosneet in the Tararu district, Tbames, for minerals other than gold. The application was referred to the warden for his report.—ln regard to Mr. McGirnpey's application to prospect for coal in Coroinandel, which had been referred to the warden, the latter reported that there was no objection, but it- transpired that the land was native property not Crown lands, ami the Board could not accede to the request. Crown Grants.—Crown grants were granted to two Katikati settlers.

Rasgiohia.—There was an application for .1 small section for a cemetery site, and a second section for a, recreation site. —The firat application was granted. The site for the recreation ground, only two acres, was considered too small for recreation purposes, and it was granted as a plantation reserve.

Cook County.—The chairman of the Cook County Council wrote that the 0000 acies which at the request of the Council had been opened for homestead purposes was unsuitable, and forwarded the County Engineer's report on the subject. He asked that this reserve might be cancelled, and a Kite area opened in the Waib.au district. This application had been referred to the Chief Surveyor, who had reported that the Waihau lands wure the most eligible the Crown had, an J it would sell for immediate or deferred payment. There -was an application from Mr. H. Williams to have the lands rejected by the Cook County Council offered for sale in ns largo blocks as possible. —The request for the change was refused. It was agreed to prepare the Waihou block for sale, nnd that the other block be surveyed, the size of the blocks to be left to the judgment of the Chief Surveyor. Timbek Pebmit.—Permission was granted to Mr. Tredwell to utilize some burnt kauri trees on his selection. Surveyors.—Messrs. Walters and Haic; applied to he appointed surveyors to the Board in Poverty Bay for new blocks to be opened.— The application was referred to the Chief Surveyor. A Permit. — Robert Stewart, a native teacher, who had planted trees on Government Jand outside a school reservo at Whakatane, was granted permission to thin out and remove some of the trees subject to the supervision of Mr. Bush, Besident Magistrate of the district. Application fob Timber.—Herejnti Rapihana had permission granted to him at last meeting to remove some kauri trees for building purposes. He now wrote that he had no money to pay for the trees, and aalted that the permission be granted without payment. There were some dead trees which he also wishe'd to uae. —It was agreed to allow him to take six dead trees. Ngaruawahia.— The Town Board applied for a site for a town-hall and office.-, bub the allotments selected were not available, and they were asked to make another selection. They now asked for lot 599, but that proved to be a river bank endowment, and could not bo granted. Lot 559, at the back of thai selected, was, however, available, and it was agreed to inform the Board to that effect. Tokatoka.—The application was for this block of 20,000 acres of swamp land iu Hobson county, and the applicant pointed out that extensive drainage works would be required.— It was agreed to sub-divide the block, and sell it in sections of 5000 acres. Applications iok Lasd. — A number of applications to have lauds offered for sale under the homestead deferral payment ami ready. cash system were received and considered.
