YOUNG MEN'S CHRISTIAN ASSOCIATION.

FAREWELL TO THE REV. C. M. PYM. There was a special meeting held at the Young Men's Christian Association assembly room last evening, to bid farewell to the Rev. C. M. Pym, a clergyman -n ho, during his visit to New Zealand, has conducted mission services in all parts of the colony. He is now about to return to his own parish in England. The hall was crowded to excess, and on the platform were Mr. J. L. Wilson (Chairman), the Ven. Archdeacon Maunsell, the Rev. E. N. Bree, the Rev. B. T. Dudley, and Mr. T. Buddie. There was at>ood choir in attendance. The selections during the evening were from Moody and Sankey's hymns The Rev. E. N. Bree read a lesson from Scripture, and the Ven. Archdeacon Maunsell led in prayer.—The Chairman, in opening the proceedings, said they were met to bid Mr. Pym God-speed. He referred to the noble work which was now being accomplished by the noble band of evangelists throughout the world—Moody, Aitken, Haslem, and their old friend Dr. Somerville, and others of whom few but God was taking record. He was glad that they had such, aud a platform in Auckland on which to welcome them where denominational differences were overlooked. He wished a pleasant and happy voyage to their friend Mr. Pym.— The Ven. Ai'chdeacon Maunsell said as they were told there was a large programme, lie would not occupy the time of the meeting with many words. He was pleased that there was a common platform in Auckland. He believed in the necessity for missionaries. Ministers were too apt to fall into grooves, and forget the main work, and it was therefore well that they should be stirred up. He hoped their friend would enjoy long life, and be a great blessing to many.—The Rev. E. N. Bree was present with a mixture of pleasure aud sorrow. They were met here to give a hearty farewell to a gentleman whom they all appreciated as a truly faithful and loving evangelist. The rev. gentleman spoke in grateful. terms of the services the Rev. Mr. Pym had conducted in his parish, and the good they had done to himself and the congregation. —The Rev. B. T. Dudley also spoke in heartfelt appreciation of the special services held by the Rev. Mr. Pym at St. Sepulchre's. —The Rev. Mr. Pym said so many kind things had been said of him that he could hardly thank those who had spoken. God alone knew the hearts of-men, but he could honestly say that it was with an honest desire to be of use that he had come amongst them, and he believed He had condescended to use aud bless the words which had fallen from His servant's lips. Now that he was about to leave, he.thanked them for the kindly welcome and support accorded to him, especially that received from the Young Men's Christian Association, and thanked God to see this association doing the work in Auckland as it ought to be done. He urged that the Theatre services should be encouraged. As a parting word, he left with those who knew themselves to be God's children, this blessed promise from God's word, "But my God shall supply all your need; according to his riches, in Glory by Christ Jesus," Phil. 4, 19. The rev. gentleman then gave an interesting account of his mission through New Zealand, in the different centres and out-districts, and concluded ly asking those present to remember him in their prayers on his voyage home, and when he resumed his duties as minister of a country parish in England. He again' thanked those who had spoken, and those who were present for their kindness. The proceedings concluded with singing and prayer. A collection was taken up during the evening on behalf of the funds the association. The amount subscribed was £5 8s 4d.
