FATAL RIVER ACCIDENT.
[by telegraph.—pkess association.] . . Wellington, Monday. A FATAL accident occurred at Kaiwarra tonight An old settler at Tawa Flat, named William Peckham, a carter, was driving home from town, and had to ford the Kaiwarra stream (the bridge being under repair). He, however, mistook the road to the ford and it is supposed iu attempting to turn bick the horse and cart slipped over the - embankment. The cart was found by two men, capsized iu the stream, and,; on search being made, Peckham was found underneath. Life was extinct, and the deceased had a nasty gash, on the fore-head.-He leaves a. wife and a .large family. Aii inquest will be held.
