Carried.—A lengthy and desultory discussion ensued as to the ; course of action to "be taken ' at the proposed'conference. Messrs. Beresford-street School.—Letter' read from Board stating that. as Mr. Bruce's services are already at. the disposal of the headmaster of Beresford-street school, the Board do not way to . appointing him assistant-master "under" .first section of clause 45 of the Act, as recommended by the committee. _ .'. .

The Public, Schools and Teachers' Examinations.—Letter' read from Mr. Worthington, headrmaster of' : Wellesley-street East School, stating that a great many teachers would 'go np. foi''examination' on the 24tli"and subsequent days, consequently few teachers would be left to look after the city schools,' which re-opened on the same date. He suggested, to prevent,the disorganisation 'of the schools which would ensue, that the committee should " recommend; to the Board the desirability : of extending the school holidays to tlio 31st instant, and thus obviate the difficulty: ' The Chairniari stated that last year' the' committee had recommended teachers' examinations should be held during the vacation, in order to avoid the clashing which necessarily ensued. On the motion of , Mr. - McMasters, the receipt of Mr. Worthington's letter was ordered to be acknowledged, but that ,the committee did not see their way to make any recommendation. ■

Wellesley-street East School.—Letter read from Mr. Worthington, Head-master cf Wellesley-street East School, acquainting the committee that the school had carried off three scholarships and 22 certificates of proficiency, and forwarding list of successful competitors. —It .was resolved that a letter: of thanks be forwarded to Mr. Worthington, 1 congratulating him on' the result of the' examination for scholarships' and certificates: of proficiency,' so far as his school was con-! cerned. , Meeting for Election of New Com-; MITTEE.—It was resolved., to advertise the. meeting of householders for the election of the new school committee in three successive issues of the daily papers, previous to the election.
