HARBOUR BOARD: ANNUAL MEETING.
Tick annual meeting of the Board was held for'the purpose of receiving the annual reports and the election of Chairman. : -Present -. Captain D. H. McKenzie (in the chair), Messrs. T. Morrin, Compton, Mase-, field, Thompson, and Waddel. • ' • Accounts. —The Secretary read the following statement of assets and liabilities, from which we take the following The income of the Board was set down at £23,211 lis 3d; the expenditure at £21,258 lis'3d. Fixed deposits, £4500. '.Balance in-bank and in hand, £7452 13s lOd.
Engineer and Harbourmaster's 'Reports.—The reports of tlie Engineer and Harbourmaster were. laid on the table, and referred to the Works. Committee. They related to details connected with their respective departments during the past year. .—rlt was resolved that the several reports be ; printed. ■ Arrears of Rest.—The Chairman moved; ■ " That the Secretary be instructed, after a ■ vreek's notice given, to take legal proceedings to recover all. arrears of - rent due to > the Board' to the 31st/-December, ' 1880." - He.said that it was very unfair to those : vriio did discharge their duty, to the Board •that others should be allowed, to go for- a long period in debt for rent. —The Secretary, hoped .the ; Board would .give him definite instructions.—Mr. Thompson thought there should .be no exceptions made. All should be "dealt with alike.. The ■ rent should be settled to a certain date.— i Several members of the Board expressed a ■similar opinion.—The resolution was passed unanimously. _
