WAIKATO DISTRICT NEWS.
[FROJI OUB OWN COKRESI'OXDEST.] Hamilton, Wednesday. At the Police Court this morning, before Mr, H. W. Northcroft, R.M., and Mr. B. C. Beale, J. 1 ,., Alexander Jackson, who did not appear, was charged with assaulting his wife and with not complying with the order of the Court to pay 7s per week towards the maintenance of his infant child. Sergeant McGovern said the accused had left for Auckland. Mrs. Jackson withdrew the assault case, and stated her willingness to make an arrangememt for the support of the child.—Mr. T. Jolly pleaded guilty to a breach of the by-laws in not having a light to his carriage on Sunday evening last. Mr. J. B. Whyte was charged with a similar omission. Mr. Hay appeared for defendant, saying that he was returning from Cambridge, and put the light out as the night was of such a character that he could see better without a light. These cases were dismissed with a caution, defendants to pay coats, 7s each. —A number of civil cases were heard.
