THE GOLDFIELDS.

The following weekly reports of the mine were received yesterday : MoanaVaiari.— Point Russell Section: In Drivinj Creek level east, we have a compact three feet thick, the stone in which shows good mineral ani looks promising for. gold. A winze has now been started sixty feet back from the °nd where the staff averaged 20z3. per ton when driven through. 2he lode here is two feet thick and well defined, showing abundance of mineral. The sinking of this winze will ba pushed on, so as to prospect the reel downwards, with , a view to driving tht 100foot level, and thus open up grouni for stoping. .Nona of the quartz broken from here has yet been forwarded to the battery. Tunnel Level: There is no change to rejort in the big reef or Nonpareil cross-tat. Eighty-foot Level: In the cross-cut wes'. a payable leader, six inches thick, has betu met with. No. 3 winze, sunk from inte«. mediate level, his broken through to No. - stopes, thus opening up some large blocks of ground available for atoping. The cross-cut at tunnel level, from the foot-wall branch of No. 3 reef, has intersected a nics looking leader, three inches thick, • containing goldbearing minerals. There is nothing fresh to mention in the stopes, and the ground crashing is showing up for a payable return. —Robsbt Comer.

Cobby Company.—No. 3 level: Contractors are making fair progress, having driven 57 feet in three weeks. South-west drive : Here the leader has proved somewhat erratio in its course, although cirrying a very promising body of quartz for about 17 feet, finally disappearing altogether. Under the circumstances, I started a north-east drive, which is now in 30 feet, carrying a strong leader the whole distance, and from present appearances I should not be surprised to find that we are once more on bhe right course. When this contract is finished I think it would ba advisable, if possible, to prospect the different places at which gold was seen in this and. the last contract. Battery: Several small parcels have been reduced during the month. There are four different parcels now on hand to be treated, but the scarcity of water is much felt.
