Toronto is inundated in places, and Central Ontario had suffered from a hurricane. Deliberate incendiary attempts had been made to destroy the Presbyterian Church and St. Joseph's Catholic Church, Ottawa. Small-pox among the horses had stopped, in Park-street, railway business in Quebec. Sir Francis Hincks and the other directors of the Consolidated Bank, charged with making false returns, have been acquitted. French Canadians are migrating in large numbers to the United States. Snow in St. John, N. 8., had fallen six feet on a level, interrupting all kinds of business. Payne, O'Neill, and Mellish, three gunners of the British Artillery, were drowned near Halifax, N.i-., on the 4th inst. It is proposed to tunnel the St. Lawrence River at Montreal. A company formed for this purpose has applied for a charter.
