DEATH OF MR. JOSEPH HAROREAVES.
Wis have to record the death of one of the aarLiest settlers in New Z-aUnd by the demise of Mr. Joseph Hargreaves, of the Kaipara. Mr. Hargreaves first settled in East Tatnaki. In the early days of the colony Dr. Campbell, James Williamson, and the late Mr. J. S. Macfarlaoe were his contemporaries. After residing for many years at East Tamaki, his station was bought by Messrs. E. and R. Maol-an. Mr. Hargreaves removed to the Kaipara, where he had leased and purchased a large tract of laud from the natives. He was a keen sportsman, although otherwise of very retiring habits. He was fond of all field famea and sport", and his form was alw *ye conspicuous on the grand stand at Ellerslie. Mr. Hargreaves married Mi.<s Spain, the daughter of Mr. Spain, Land Commissioner in the early days of the colony, and a barrister of eminence in Sydney. Captain Spain is his brother-in-law. Mr. Hargreaves lewes a sou and two daughters to mourn their loss.
