THE SPRING CHAMPIONSHIP OF AUCKLAND.
TO THE EDITOR. Sib, —As several statements hive latelybeen put abroad, to tie effect that I have no right to the title of sprint champion of Auckland, bnfc that Mr. YV. Ring is the possessor of that honour, I ask the favour of your inserting the following On the 29th January, 1879, Mr. Ring wa3 successful in defeating me by about a half-breast in a 100yards ra-e. _ Not being satisfied with the result, I decided, when circumstances would permit, to challenge him to raft ' three matches for the championship. This I did accordingly about three months ago, and as I never received any answer to my challenge, I concluded that he declined to accept it. So that I think the circumstance gives me perfect right to assume the title o£ sprint champion of Auckland. However, if Mr. Ring or any of bis friends are inclined to call my right to the title in question, I am still agreeable to run three matches—viz., 100 yards, 200 yards, and 300 yards—for the championship of Auckland, and the'sum. o£ £150.—1 am, Sc., .J. R. Huttox, Champion Sprint Runner of Auckland.. Auckland, March 27, 1850.
