ONEHUNGA BOROUGH.
Thk ordinary meeting of Council was held on Monday evening. Present: The Mayor (Mr. G. Codlin), Messrs. Broadfoot, Clark, Earle, Hartnett, Jackson, Kelsall, and Tapp. The minutes were read and confirmed, also correspondence read. Water Reserve.—The Onelmnga Water Reserves Act was read, and as it contained a very pecu'iir "local option" clause, viz., that the Act is to come into operation only after receiviog the assent of the burgessc3 given at a poll, it was referred to the Reserves Committeee to consider and report. AiiATroiß. —The Inspector reported that he had received a complaint from the keeper of the abattoir, that, in consequence of the Parcell Council having granted a licence to Mr. Raynes to kill small "goods," a great inaDy other butchers were following his example, and killing on their own premises without a licence.—The complaint wa3 laid on the table, no action being taken. Mr. Jackson said, in consequence of a statement made at a previous meeting, he had carefully gone through the keeper's returns for the last six months. He read tho results, and moved, "That, notwithstanding the falling off in the business, the fees received still left a considerable profit to the lessee."—Thia resolution was, however, negatived on the casting vo';a of the Mayor." Thanks.—-On the motion of Mr. Hartnott, the thanks of the Council were voted to the late Mayor, Mr. Blakey. Metal.—A motion to call for tenders for 400 yards of broken metal, was rejected.— [Own Correspondent, December 23.]
