ONEHUNGA BOROUGH.

The ordinary meeting of the Council was held on Monday evening. Present: The Mayor (Mr. G. Blakey), Messrs. Broadfoot, Clark, Codlin, Hartnett, Jackson, Kensall, Tapp and Waller. Minute i of previous meeting were read and confirmed; also, minutes of a meeting of the whole in committee, which had been held principally to consider an urgent telegram, re the Water Reserves Bill, whieh has since passed at Wellington, subjoct to a peculiar provision, that the Act is to come into force only after a poll of tho burgesses has been taken. Several members expressed surprise at tho extraordinary ignorance and captiousness displayed by ourlegislatorson many local matters. A number of telegrams and letters were also re»d.—An application from the Onehunga Lawn and Tennis Club for the use of a piece of ground on the Green Hill Recreation Reserve, wae received, and granted, conditions to be arranged by tho Reserves Committee. Abattoir.—Mr. Waller read a statement to show that the killing at the borough abattoir had fallen olf considerably, but he declined to propose a motion of which he had givdh notice.—Mr. Jackson said the statement read was incorrect and incomplete, and entirely omitted the amount received for fees. He had prepared a statemont compiled from the keeper's returns, which ahowed that during the previous half-year the profit on fees alone amounted to £108; during tho laet three months, when tho business had fallen off, owing to two of the largest killers having removed to the city abattoir, the profit was at the rate of £106 a year over and above the £75 paid to tho council, oat of which the lesseee could well afford to pay tho full rent agreed upon, aud have a fair profit beeides. > v;.-33 i^SSiJ Resignation.— A letter was read from Mr. Waller, resigning his seat after tho 17th instant.
