-• [Opening of *.he New Organ, All Saints' Church, Ponsonby, December 3rd, 1879. j Thou choicest instrument ! Which man, slim wonderment. Evoked from out Pandean pipe of reed ; In those dim eons, When the loud-voiced pecans Arose to Zeus, or Faun, in times of need. Marvellous combination Of soft and loud vibration, Of the wind currents of the airy sphere When the obedient metal Obeys the viewless pedal. And the full tone resounds on charmed ear. And for the meetest shrine We give thee place divine ; We bid thee lead the sweet soprano ctoir, Swell out the feebler altos, Roll in the full contralto*. And to the ba-sea lend seraphic force and fire. Devote to a»l sound holier And to no sound ignobler, [air. Than to His praise who formed and weighed the Through every tube vibrating. Through everr cadence shaking Our souls, ana leading up to the Eternal Fair. Oh I waves of the air ocean ! Oh ! priceless, blest emotion ! What were this life, if all of life were here 1 If soma faint diapason From the unseen horizon Broke not upon us in this mortil sphere t As the light smoke ascending, Of burning perfume blending, In its arising with the vuwlesj wind ; So do our souls, still sighing Soiled, shattered, yet undying, Rise on the waves of sound t« th« Eternal Mind. 1 St. Georgk.
