The usual quarterly competition of tho Thames District Bolt took p'aoe to-day, and the belt again falls to the Naval Brigade, it beiug the fifth time they have won it in succession. There were in all 43 entries, the Naval Brigade aud Scottish Battalion lioing largely represented. The ranges were 300, 400, 500, and 600 yards; fire shots at each range. Petty Officer Thomas is the fortunate winner, with the fine score of 70 points out of a possible 80. There were five prizes in all, and of these the Naval Brigade take four, the other one going to the Engineers. WELLINGTON, Sunday. Dr. Earle was savagely attacked in his surgery this morning by a madman nam , d Actouio. The man, after a conversation with the doctor, during which he applied for admission to the hospital, took tho opportunity of the doctor's back being turned to strike him at the hack of the head with a large stone.
