CAPTAIN LOGAN AND THE HARBOUR BOARD.

TO THE EDITOR. Sir,—The writer of the paragraph in your issue of the 4th must know very little of what lie was writing about, or have the moat utter disregard for truth and accuracy. TUe case referred to was brought uud-sr the harbour regulations, which are in force all over tiie colouy, and not under a by-law of the Aucklaud Harbour B.iard. The harbour regulations, no doubt, were supplied to Captain Loyan on more than one occasion, and I believe I am correct in. saying that he liiis applied for and obtained permission to laud cattle on previous occasion?. I also believe it to be true that Captain Logan and the Hero liiivo been granted more privileges than anyone that over entered this port, and has been allowed to land cattle at ail hours of the day, whereas the local steamboat owners and those engaged in landing and shipping cattle must obtain permission to do so duriuy certain hours of the day. On the occasion referred to the catile by the Hero were of a lively turn of mind, aud objected to the restraint of a halUr, so much so that complaints were made to the police who complained to the Harbour Board. Xo other courso was opeu to the board but to lay an information, certainly not with the view of prosecuting or iuflicting a pnalty ou Captain Logan, but to show the public and all those engaged in shipping and lauding cattle that the ollicers of the board intend to treat all alike, not even excepting the Hero. It will be admitted that the b.ard should treat all parties alike ; aud, as the harbour regulation* aie strictly pat in force as far as local steamboats are concerned, no yood reason can be shown why steamboats from outside the colony Bhould be ti cited differently.—l am, &c., D. H. Alc'Keszik. Aucklaud, December G, 1579.
