GOOD TEMPLARISM.
The sixth anniversary of the Excelsior L"dge of Good Templars was held on 19th November, in the school room in connection with the Franklin Road Primitive Methodist Church, by a social tea-party, followed by an entertainment, consisting of addresses, recitations, and songs. Th* ladies who presided over the tables were Mesdames Moore, Porteous, Rout, Gibbg, Gray, and Chambers, and Misses Gibb.°, Booth, Adlington, Marson, and Rout. After ample justice had been done to the good things provided the entertainment was begun at 7.30 p m. by an opening ode ; after which the Rev. Mr. Long, of the Alexandra-steet Primitive Mpthodist Church, who was in the chair, delivered a brief address. He congratulate! the lodge on its prosperity and the good work they were accomplishing, and said that he himself being a Templar, though not a member of any lodge in Auckland, had the fullest sympathy with the cause of temperance, the principles of which he strongly urged on all present who did not already belong to the order. This was followed by a trio by three young ladies, after which Mr. Brame made a short address. The programme, which was a very lengthy one, was then proceeded with, and thoroughly enjoyed by those present—all those taking part, ladies and gentlemen, beine Good Templars. Excelsior Lolee number G9 members in good stauding—2o sisters and 49 brothers—the average attendance being 30, and their prospeots for the future are very encouraging. The present officers are : W.C., Mr. Adlington ; W.V. Mr. Carter; W.S., Mr. Whittcornbe ; and W.T., Mr. Nightingale. The anniversary nf the Pakuranca Lodee, I. 0.G.T., was celebrated by a concert and a quadril'e party, held in the Pakuranca Hall, on the 4th November. The W.C.T. (Mr. C. Pye), in his speech, alluded to tbe satisfactory state of the an\ also to the general happiness aud prosperitv or the district, and that Good Templapism ha) .1 good deal to do with it. A long programme was gone through, the members of lha lodge being assisted by several lady and gentle men amateurs. We might make particular mention of the songs given by Mrs. Fortune and Messrs. Fitzpatrick and Pye, which were encored. After the concert the young people form- d a quadrille party, at which all seemed to heartily enjoy themselves. A hearty vote, of thanks was given to the committee, which consisted of the following ladies and gentlemen :—Mesdames Pye, Massey, Fortune, and Leaning, and Messrs. Massey, Pye.
