A TERRIBLE REVEL.

A "Medical Man*" relates the following incident which came under his own observation :—"I was called the other night to see a man in the agonies of cholera-cramp, apparently the result of drinking freely on the occasion of liis niece's marriage. He has b:cu already three weeks out of work through his indulgence The father met with an accident about thes.une time, which nearly co.-.t him his life, and which, I fear, must also bj traced to his own stupidity when muddled with drink. I found not less than a dozen person s , mrstly young women, in a room with full glasses before them, a thrc-e gallon jar of strong alo on the table, and several bottle of whiskey. The latter had be:n replenished over and over again. The revels were k<-pt up for five days, and I have been assured by the uncle o£ the bride that ' the drink' alone cost them the sum of £20. Sundry young fellows from the North End appear to have clubbed together to meet the coat, had been, in fact, 'saving up' for weeks prevously bo as to have a regular spree with their sweethearts on the occasion of their friend's marriage. The father pawned his watch and several article of furniture ; one young fellow pawned his cost, hat, and watch ; and the sum of £5 was advnnced on the security of their names by the publican ! t;> find its way back into his ' till' as fresh supplies of liquor were called for 1 The debauch, I say, lasted five days, and the whole party of revellers—twenty or thirty in number—slept together on the floors or anywhere of a small three-roomed cottage in one of the small streets of Toxteth Park. The revels ended, the party, in true Hibernian fashion, proceeded to the house of Father Nngent and signed the pledge."—Liverpool Geurier.
