NEW BUILDINGS AT QUEENSTREET WHARF.

We described a few dajsago the new building which is being erected ou the reclaimed land on the Queen-street Wharf by Messrs Ehrenfri- d Brother, mid referred briefly to the one which was built; some months agi by Mr. C. Major. The entire space between Customhouse streetand Quay-street, between which s'reets these new buildings ar* being constructed, is laid off in 14 allotment?, which are ail taken up, as follows :— 1. Nearest Customhouse-street, s'ze 41 x 120, is leased by Mr. Howard. 2. Has been built ou by Mr. O-borne, and is occupied by himself. Size, 30 x 120. 3. By Mr. J. Reid. Not as yet built upon. 4. Messrs. Ehrenfried Brothers (30 s 120). Being built upon, as described in the Herald. 5. Mr. K.iton. At present vacant. 6. Mr. I ains". Jn«t about to build. 7. Mr, Forgie. V-oint. S. Mr. Maj< r. Built upon as described. 9. Mr. Vare. At pre : ent vacant, but plans are out calling for tender*. 10. Mr. Batger. Built upon. 11. Mr. Compton. Built upon. 12. Owen and Dewar. Vacant as yet 13. Messrs. J. and H. Oxloy. Built upon. 14. Mr. Burt (4L x 120). Vacant. On allotments Nos. 9, 10, 11, 12, and 13, five in all, there will be, when all are completed, buildings on exactly the same style and description in every way, which, as a block, will present a very handsome an 4 uniform appearance; and hereafter when a third storey will have been erected on cach of these, a 9 wo believe is contemplated and provided for by the architect, they will be still greater ornaments to the wharf and to the city generilly. A descuption of the two cditices which are be ; ng now built on the two allotmcuts. Nos. 10 and 11, leased respectively by Mr. Batger and Mr. Compton, will answer f< r the whole five. The architect is Mr. Kdward Bartlev, and the builder Mr. William Philcox. It is a two-storry building, with circular doors and win.'owp. No particular stylo of architecture Ins been adhered t», but it may be very properly caUed the light Italian style. The front of the building in Queen street is ornamented with sunken pilasters and cornices, tho top comics being , supported ou brackets. The lower part of The front is formed in rusticated blocks, with large plate-glass windows. The walls are all built of brick, with ground mo*tar, and cemented with Portland cement. The two buildings on the allotment of Me?f-r5. Batgcr and Compton are divided into four &hops fronting on Queen-street, and two stores at the bick fronting on T/ttlo Qaeen street. The four shops on the Qaeenstleet front are rented by Mr. Williams, fishmonger ; Hales and Griffith, bakers; E. Compton, and thf Pacific Mail Co. Of tqe two stores at the back, in one are built Mfessrs. Hales and Griffith's oven 3, and the is at present used as a free goods store.-. Messrs. J. and D. Oxley's building on allotment No. 13 is precisely the same externally as those just described. The architect is the same, viz., Mr. Edward Bartley. the builders in Messrs. Oxley's case being McConochie and Flatt. Their building is divided into a store for their own use in J front—that.is, as a ship chaudlery warehouse—and at the back they have a large workshop fitted up with ali the prooer machinery for the manufacture of blocks, &c. The front part in the upper stnrev is divided into two offices, and the remainder i of the same storey is a sail loft.
