PARNELL HIGHWAY MEETING. 1876.

TO THE EDITOR. Pib, —It is reported in the papers of August I, 1876, that at the public meeting held in Pamell Hall last night, " the trustees have christened this cutting ' Strange's Folly,' " namely, the works executed nndcr me in Rutland Koad. As an evidence c£ the wisdom so displayed by the trustees, no more damning proof need be adduced than that (with all the foolish expenditure of about £100, as stated in the meeting, which I spent on it by cutting nearly double the depth it was pronunced by engineers, Sc., would be required for the purpose of filling in the veritable hole at the hottom, and which will yet require more; also, the imaginary tunnel's cost, executed without orders; still the fact remains, all cost only the estimated £100) the effects of such special " folly" on my part ia demonstrated by the increased value of 25 per cent, on laud, also by the increased amount of rates consequent on the building of a large Dumber of houses—an amount equal, if not more, than the increased rates of the rest of the borough put together. The correctness of the above I leave to the "They says" to controvert. Sir, "honour to whom honour ig due." Surely the public may thank Alcssrs. McKenzie and Winks for the unique results of " Strange's Folly," to which said "folly" they were the sponsors—they assisting at both birth and christening,—l am, &e., J. B. Strange. P.S. To the inhabitants of Conquest Place I commend tho motto, "Be just, and fear UMt."
