SOCIETY OF ARTISTS.
The committee meeting of this society was held yesterday evening for the purpose of receiving the awards of the judges. There was a full attendance. After some discussion upon details relating to the exhibition, a paper was received from Mr. Albin Martin containing the following awards : To Mrs. Henrich Kohn, for oil painting (fifiure), "The Head of a Veteran": The silver medal of the society. To Mr. Whitehead, for landscape (in oil) : Silver medal. To Mr. Kenneth Watkin for landscape (in wator colours): Silver medal. To Miss W. C. Horae, for flower-painting (water colours) : Silver medal. The following artists were awarded certificates of honourable mention :— O. R. Campbell, figure (in oil), "Our Ancestor." Mr. C. Blooinfi 'Id, landscape (in oil). Mr. Alfred Sbarpe, laudscapc (in water colours). In spite of the want of publicity and lack of business tact in the management of the exhibition, it may be pronounced a success , , as far as regards the appreciation of the public, as indicated by purchases. Pictures to the value of £185 10s hare been sold. Mr. A. Sharpe heads the list with 5 pictures, sold for £44 2s; Drnmmond comes next with 4 pictures, for £25 10*; Blomfield sold 3 for £10 10s; Watkins, 1 for £8 Ss ; Sturtevant, jun., 1 f-r £2 2; Scott, 1 for £5 ss; Gibbs, 1 for £0 6s; and Tizard, 1 for £3 10s.
