Mr. Dick presented a petition, signed by 4400 residents of Dunedin and suburbs, relative to the encouragement of local manufactures, &c, which was read and referred to the Tariff Committee. GRIDIRONING CONDEMNED. Sir Geokge Gre\ presented a petition, signed by 500 residents of Canterbury, c>m--1 plaining of the conduct cf the Hon. John Hall, Messrs. Moorhousn, Rolleston, and Saunders, relative to the maladministration of the waste lands of that provincial district re the abuse known as gridironing. The petition was read in such a fragmentary manner by the Clerk to the Assembly, that its precise contents could not possibly be noted. ROADS AND BRIDGES IN WANGANDI. Major Atkinson" gave notice, that he would introduce, and ask the House to pans through all its stages, tho Wanganui Roads and Bridges Bills. GREEDY MEMBERS. In r-ply to Mr. Pyke, Major Atkinson said the Government would agree to a recommittal of the estimates, for the purpose of re-considericg the reduction of the honorarium. RESOLUTIONS ADOPTED. The resolutions from the Committee of Supply were reported, read, and agreed to. ELECTORS BILL. The amendments made by the Legislative Council in the Fqual Qualification of Electors Bill were considered, and agreed to. COMMITTEE OF .SUPPLY. The House then went into Committee of supply. The first vote was - New Zealand Inetitute, £500.—Passed. Tbe next vote considered was £3000 for the Agent-General's Department. Mr. GisiiOßN'E moved an amendment, " That the amount be reduced £1000." The vote as priut-d was passed. The next vote was, charitable institutions, £15,700. The vote was passed »s printed. Item Lunitii Asylnm, £26,822 was passed. Item printing and stationery, £24,50S was passed. Item miscellaneous services, £34,501 Mr. Kelly movrd, "That tho item of £2000 be struck out." The vote, as printed, was pissed. Tho Government Insurance account, £20,941. A division took place on the motion to strike out £5,000 for the election of Government Insurance Offices — Ays, 22 ; Noes, 30. The item was retained. Government Native Reserves account £1114, and surplus land fund account, £14,000, was passed. Clause to Minister of Public Works, £54G,598. In reply to Mr. Georoe, The Minister of Pi'blic Works said, he hoped to make tbe Public Works Statement this week, or eiiriy next week. Mr. Lundok suggested that the House should adjourn.
