The Telegraph of the 22nd reports as follows of the market :—The business this morning has not been of an important nature, and on the whole the week may be said to have closed flatly. In summarising the week's work « have to notice the difference between it and its immediate predecessors. Instead of speculation a steady, though not remarkably active, legitimate trado demand has been experienced for all lines. Bottled beers have been noticed to a fair extent, with sales to arrive in leading brands. Cornsacks found buyers at up to 8j 3d per dozen iu trade lines. A concession on this figure would have leu to an extended business. Soda crystals were placed at £7 per ton, which price shows an advance on late rates. Cream tartar and acid have both received seasonable attention, and sales are reported at Is 9d to Is 9id for tartar acid, and Is 4d for tartar, both in* jars. Flower of sulphur has been placed at £16 per ton, which, iu view of the late rates, may be looked upon as a full figure. Dried fruits are agaia coming into notice, and the week closes with several sales at full rates ; currants having realised 5d for prime quality ; Elenies are firm at 6Jd per lb.;Valenciis moving freely atCd per lb. lib. salmon has been freely inquired for, without, however, leading to any business worthy of special mention. Metals have hid a very fair share of attention, at improving rates, as will be gathered on reference to our daily 61es. Spirits : Brandies throughout the week have been very firmly held. The prices asked have curtailed business to a considerable extent, but such sales aa have been carried through show fully 3d per gallon on last week's quotations. B.P. rum has met with very little attention. Queensland in better demand at 2s to 2s Id per gallon. Case whisky has moved freely, bulk comparatively neglected. Sugars : the trade availed themselves of the only auction sale during the week to purchase very freely in Queensland and N.S. Wales sorts at the lately established rise ; privately a good business was also carried through. In timber, outside of the ordinary sales of colonial timber, vre hear of the quittance of Baltic deals, at a price withheld. The breadstuff market continues in a quiescent state, the smallest trade lots only being nioveable. Bran is cot so lirm, and 12jd may be considered as extreme rates. In maize the market remains unaltered, best samples seliing from 2s to 2s 4d per bushel. There are scarcely any old patotoes in the market : new are now arriving very freely, and command a ready sale at from Ss to 11s per cwt. B Y~T EL Bβ RA P H. WELLINGTON. December I. —Messrs. Taery and Campbell report the following prices at their Saturday market sales:—New potatoes, lAd per lb.; green peas.
