DOMAIN BOARD.

The monthly meeting of the Domain Hoard was held yesterday at the Minister's room, Custom-housebuildings. Present: Mr. G. W. Mitford, chairman ; Messrs. T. Macffarlane J. B. Russell, and W. Coleman. The minutes of last meetiDg were read and confirmed. Ranger's Report.—The report of the ranger (Mr. Goldie) was submitted.. During the month he had erected five gates, but another was still require.!. He reported that he could not keep visitors from getting over the fences. Last month he took out 17 summonses, but afterwards he was informed that on account of the wording of the by-law the cases would be likely to fall through, so he did not proceed, pending further instructions from the board.—Mr. Russell said on this head, he had a few days ago noticed two fellows, one a sailor, breaking through a hedge near Mr. Goldie's house. Ho was too unwell at the time to follow them to toivn or he would have done eo. He asked what was the defect iu the by-law alluded to by the ranger.—The chairman said it appeared that they would have to prove malice.— The secretary (Mr. Brown), read the bylaw. Its provisions were "any person wilfully," &c.—Mr. Russell said that was entirely distinct from malice, and it wag agreed to bring on a case to test the question, and, if the law was against them, then they must alter the by-law or make a new one.—Thu chairman said ho had recently noticed a fine Norfolk Island pine, about 12 years' growth, slit down with an axe aud destroyed.—Mr. Russell said that was a malicious act, and the person doing it could be proceeded against criminally for mali. ci.us iujury to property. A Stray Account.—An account for 4b Gd for stationery was received from the Government Office, Wellington.—Mr. Brown said they had neither received stationery nor copies of the Act, and he did not know anything of the account. Domain-street.—Mr. Whiteside wr>>te # •asking that he might receive the same indulgence as the other lessees in the Domain, namely, five yeara' extension of lease as com* penuation for the draiuage he had done to preserve the property. It was agreed that Air. Macffarlane should report on the merits of the application at next meeting. CRiCKhT Ground. — The trustees forwarded their aocouuts of receipts and expenditure for the year, 'the amount collected was £203, aud they had expended &2G2. They expected the public to subscribe towards further improvements aud the erection of a buil.liug. It waj agieed to ask the trustees to select a site, aud consult with the board. '1 in-: Cuixamp.n.—Tho Chinese, lessees of a portion of the Domain ground at Stanleystreet, wrote, stating that rates were o aimed from them by the Panit-11 Bor-iugh Council, —The chairman sai l he did not think this land was withiu the borough, at least, ii was not so according to the map iu the borough oliice.—Mr. Russell said the map was not the criterion they should have the Gazette notification. They should try aud have the Domain excluded from all these corporations.—Mr. Coleman undeitouk to a3k the town clerk to inquire into the matter. Accounts.—The usual monthly accounts were passed tor payment aud cheques signed, after which the meeting terminated.
