Wanaka sailed yesterday afternoon for the East Coast ports and the iouth, with passengers and cargo. The s.s. lona sailed yesterday evening, for Russell and Northern ports, with passengers and cargo. The p.s. Anne Milbank sailed last night, with passengers and cargo, for Whangareiand Mangapai. The p.s. Tongariri sailol yesterday, for Mangawai, with cargo, &c. The s.s, Southern Cross arrived in harbour yesterday afternoon, from Napier, with a cargo of cattle, &c., which were landed at theTamaki. The steamer will go into the gradiug dock today in order to have an overhaul. The schooner Queen is announced to sail today for Ilokiatiga, with a cargo of general merchandise. • The brigantine Lapwing cleared at the Customs yesterday for Kaipara, and will there load with timber for Dunedin. The vessel will sail early this morning. The schooner Fiery Cross, from Oamaru, should make her appearance this morning, as she was seen in the Gulf yesterday. The barque Caberfeidh, from Lyttelton, should put in an appearance to-day, as site left Hicks's Bay about the time the brigantine Ada C. Owen passed there. Captaiu Rose, of the Rirotonga schooner Atotehau, report* that the New Bedford whaleship California put into Tahiti on August 1, for repairs, having been in collision with some ice. The whaleship Roaring Rillow, Captain Lewis, 48 months out from New Bedford, a full ship, was off Rarotonga on September 14, bound to the middle cruising ground for bone ; thence to Russell. Bay of Islands. The brigantine Progress was expected to sail from Sydney for this port on .Saturday last. The x>-s. Come:ang is advertised to sail from Onehunga for Waitara at 2 p.m. to-morrow. The s.s. Hannah Mokau is announced to sail from Onehunga at 1 p.m. to-morrow, for Wai tara and New Plymouth. The Union Co.'s s.s. Wellington arrived in the Manukau yesterday morning, with passengers and cargo, from New Plymouth and the South. Wc are indebted to the purser for files and the following report:—She left Dunedin. after undergoing a thorough overhaul, on the Ist inst. at 2 p.m., and made a smart run up to Lyttelton, arriving there at G.3oa.m. ou the following morning; left again at 4 p.m for Wellington, arriving there at S a. m. on the 3rd ; left same day at 5 p.m. for Picton, arriving theie at 11 p.m.; left Picton at 11.30 p.m., and arrived at Nelson at 9 a.m. on the 4th; left again at 11.30 a.m. same daj for Taranaki, which place was reached at Ga.m. on Sunday ; left Tar.maki at 1 p.m., and arrived as above. Experienced fine weather throughout, with light variable winds. The steamer will return South tomorrow at 1 p.m., and intending passengers will have to leave Auckland by the mid-day train.

The barque Stag, from Adelaide, was the vessel signalled on Sunday afternoon, and she entered the harbour after a smart passage of 11 days, during which the vessel experienced some very heavy weather. The barque brings forward a large quantity of iluur, wheat, aud bark, and is consigned to Messrs. Stone Bros. Captain Thow reports leaving Adelaide on Thursday, the 25tli ultimo, with a light northerly wind, which carried the vessel as far as Capo Northumberland, thence to Kent's Group strong westerly winds. On Monday, tho 20th, it increased to a heavy gale, during which the vessel shipped hea'y seas, carrying away the upper niaintopsail, knocking out somo of the port bulwarks, and washing away one of shiu't boats. The wind moderated towards evening, but continued fresh, taking the vessel within 200 miles of Cape Maria Van Diemen. This land was made on Friday at 10 p.m. Down the coast fresh westerly breezes, rounding Capo Brett at noon on Saturday ; thence to port light S.E. winds and calms, making tho Clmnnel on Sunday evening and the harbour as above. The s.s. Hero arrived in harbo.ir yesterday morning, about 5 a.ji., from Melbourne and Sydney, after a good run of 5i days from the latter port. Sho brought a fair complement of passengers, and a very heavy cargo of merchandise, about 680 tons in all. Owen arrived in harbour yesterday afternoon from Dunedin, after a somewhat prolonged passage of 2L days, caused by continuous adverse winds and unfavourable weather. The schooner biings a full of breadstuff's and grain, as per import list. Capt. McLeod reports sailing from Dunedin on the 15th ultimo with fresh N. and N.E. winds, which increased to a strong gale, and this kind of weather continued until the East Cape was made on Sunday, the 28th, and the following day the vessel anchored under the lee of the Cape. Remained there until the following day, when sail was made, and got fully half-way across the Bay of Plenty, when a strong westerly gale came on, and tho vessel was driven back

south of the East Cape again, where she anchored until Saturday night last. Thence to port light S, and S.W. breezes. The North Head was made yesterday at mid-day, and the harbour during the evening. The topsail schooner Advance, from Gisborne, was sighted by the schooner Ada C. "Owen on her way to this port, and may therefore be expected to-day. The brigantine Oamaru arrived in harbour last night from Oamaru, after a passage of nine days. She brings a full cargo of breadstuffs and grain, as per our import list. The VPHsel left Oamaru on cbe 27th ult., with a light southerly wind, which died away shortly afterwards to a calm, and the vessel drifted to tho southward. On tho following day fresh south and south-west breezes sprang up, and Portland Island was abreast on Thursday; rounded the East Capo during the night. Across tho Bay of Plenty strong breezes from the same quarter, with heavy seas, one of which broke aboard and stove in tho ship's boat; since then fresh S.W. winds until in the Gulf, when the wind died away. The s.s. lloweoa was taken ©ut of the dock yesterday, where she has been for several days, umleigoing re-coppering, receiving new stern posts, and a thorough overhaul. The steamer was towed over to Messrs. Fraser.md Tinne's to receive the new boiler and engines. The p.s. Enterprise was taken into the dock yesterday to have her copper examined and her ' forefoot repaired. She will resume running to the Thames on Wednesday evening. The brigantine Kenilwofth came off Messrs. Sims and Brown's slip, North Shore, yesterday morning, where she has been for the past week ; or two, undergoing extensive alterations and re- ! pairs. The vessel has been re-caulked, coppered, and fastened throughout; while her topsides, after-end, spars, keel, &c., have been renewed, and the schooner supplied with almost tho whole of new gear and sails. She is now lying off the railway wharf, and with her new j coat of paint and refit looks as taut aud neat us | the day she was launched.
