HIGHWAY BOARD MEETINGS.

WHAU, The annual meeting of the ratepayers of the Whan Highway District was held on Thursday evening, at the public hall. There was a moderate attendance. Mr. Hooper was called to tbe chair, and opened the proceedings. Mr. Bollard, the Chairman of the oat-going Board, read the annual balancesheet, Bhewing the total receipts to be £294 13a lid, and the expenditure £290 15s sd, leaving a balance of £3 18s Gd. He explained the various items in detail, and the report was received and adopted unanimously. The following ratepayers were then elected trustees for the ensuing year :— Messrs. Bollard, Thomas, Bnchanin, Owen, and Johnson. Messrs. Forsyth and Bell were elected auditors, and Messrs. Tait and Webb fence-viewers.—A vote of thanks was accorded to the trustees for their services during the past year, and a vote of thanks to the Chairman terminated the proceedings. PIRONGIA. The annual meeting of the ratepayers in the above district was held on the 19th instant. Mr. Neill occupied the chair. The balance-sheet was read and adopted. The following ratepayers were elected as trustees : — Messrs. J. Hodgson, James Sherrett, W. Jordan, Rosborough, and J. M. Quirk. Messrs. R. Neill and David Kolls were elected auditors, and Messrs. Henry Southee and P. James were appointed fenceviewers. At a subsequent meeting of the newly-elected trustees Mr. Hodgson was appointed permanent chairman, and Mr. James Sherrett secretary and collector. NGARUAWAHIA. At the annual meeting of ratepayers in this district, the following balance-sheet was adopted:—Balance in hand, June 30,1878, £234354 d. Receipts: From rates,£2ol 15.35(1; £for £, £136 6s 9d; County fund, £137 14-ilO'l; from Government—special grant for Waipa Main Road, £700; special grant, Tuikaramea (on account of £91 13s 3d), £S0; miscellaneous, £415 2s lid ; deposits on contracts, £108 10a; total, £1G44 13d 3d. Expenditure: Existing roads, repairs and improvements, £249 3s sd; new roads, £95 12s Id ; bridges, £68 6s lid; fences, £17 ISs 2d ; compensation, £20; material, &c., £33 Is 8d ; special works (special grant) — Waipa Main Road, roads, £843 18s 9d; bridges and culverts, £209 12a lOd ; survey, &c., £46 8s 5d ; Tuhikaramea deviation, £S4 15s; management—salaries, £20 ; travelling expenses, £4 12s ; collection of rates, £36 15s ; sundries, £129 4s lOd ; deposits returned, £86; balance in bank, £68 7s 10il ; rates in hands of collector, £30 16s 4d ; total, £1644 13s 3d. —The following ratepayers were eleeted trustees :—Messrs. C. Day, L. B. Harris, J. H. W. Morris, JohnMartyn, and P. Corboy. Messrs. G. Edgecumbe and A. Dawson were appointed auditors, and Messrs E. Fitzpatrick and D. B. Hurdle fence-viewers.—A vote of thanks to the Chairman terminated the business of the meeting. RUATANGATA. On the 19th inst. the annual meeting of the ratepayers of the Ruatangata district took place, for the election of Road Board trustees, &c. Mr. E. Millington was voted to the chair, and, after reading the notice convening the meeting, called on the chairman of the retiring Board to read the abstract of receipts and expenditure for the past year, which shewed that the total receipts amounted to £101 12s lid, consisting of rates, £62 Is lid; Government subsidy, £39 lis. The total expenditure, £100 8s 6d—divided between sundries, £3 9s, and roads and bridges, £96 17s 6d. Messrs. Semadeni, Powlesland, Lilly, Hodgson, and Going were elected trustees; Messrs. Millington and James Whitelaw, auditors; and Meters. Joseph Smith and George Powles, fence-viewers. . The business was concluded with a vote of thanks ta the out-going trustees, and to the chairman of the meeting. This was the most orderly annual meeting that has been held in this district for the last tan years ; there being a marked absenoe of that display of animosity and bitterness so often seen. —[Own Correspondent, July 23.] WHANGAREI TOWNSHIP. Tbe annual meeting of the ratepayers of the Whangarei Township Highway District was held in the Court-house, on Friday, the 18th inst., —Mr. Hanry Marcroft in the chair. The treasurer's accounts were audited by Messrs. Broadbent and Bain, found correct, and unanimously approved of by the meeting. The election of trustees then took place, by ballot, with the following result:—Messrs. R. Thompson, 25 ; R. Reyburn, 23 ; Jameß Wilson, 25 ; J. Irwin Wilson, 26 ; N. M. Prater, 22 ; A. Pearson, 5; B. C. Jenkins, 6; W. Broadbent, 5; R. McLeod, 7. The first five were eleoted. Messrs. A. Seott and W. Broadbent auditors. Messrs. E. Jenkins and W. Caitcheon fence-viewers. A vote of thanks to the chairman closed the meeting. At a meeting of the members of the Board which afterwards took place, Messrs. R. Reyburn (chairman), James Wilson (treasurer), and J. T.
