HOKIANGA.
A meeting of persons interested,in the formation of a company for the purpose'of purchasing a"steam-launch to. trade on ; the Hckianga River and its branches, was held at Herd's Point, on the sth icst. There was a fair attendance of people. It was resolved to register the company under The Joint Stock Companies' Act, 1860, with limited liability and a capital of ' £400,' in 400 Bhares of £1 each, to be named "The Hokianga Steam Ferry Company." Directors to the number of nine, five to form a quorum, were elected. The launch has been purchased in Wellington, and is expected-to arrive here in about three' weeks time. Tendera are being called tor the lease of the boat for a term of six months. Failing any satisfactory offer, the company will work the boat themselves, and they now invite applications from competent persons for the situations of captain and engineer. A meeting was also held at the same time for the purpose of taking steps to inaugurate the library here. The Board of Education have given us a grant of £13 19s, but the money will not be available until the library shall havo become a corporate institution. It was resolved to incorporate the library forthwith. The following trustees were elected : — Messrs. Von Sturmer, Yarborougb, Bishop, Millar, Herbert and Bryers.—[Own Correspondent, July 9.]
