BENEVOLENT AND SOCIETY.
. <■ [by telegraph, fress association.] Christchurcb, Friday. A meeting was held this afternoon, principally of clergy, to discuas the question of establishing a Benevolent Society in Christchurch. The Primate presided, and after several resolutions and amendments had been moved, it was decided to establish a Benevolent Aid S ,7 ;:';*}-, and appoint a committee to bring up & report on the basis upon which it should he formed. The following committee was chosen, and will hold its first meeting on. Monday :--The Primate, the Dean of CfcTieicfcarch ; the Bevs. Garaty, Fraay and Venuy, aad Messrs. Hobbs, M. Acker, Howiaon, and the Mayor of Christchnrch. The following resolutien was also carried:—" That this meeting is of opinion that a general scheme for charitable institutions throughout the colony should be established by the Government."
