THE NGAPUHIS AND THE TARANAKI AFFAIR.

Thk principal chiefs of the Ngapnbi and Rsrawa .tribes are still in Auckland. They are much concerned about this affair at Taran*ki, and have addressed the Governor and the Premier on the subject. As will be seen, they strongly advise cautious treatment. The following is. a translation of the message which was sent away yesterday:— "The embroilment at Taranaki.—To the Oovernor and the Premier': —This is an expression of opinion from the chiefs of Ngapuhi and tto Kara wa concerning the disturbance which teems imminent at Taranaki. Let yonr management of that difficulty be gentle and patient, so that concord and peace may prevail between the two peoples, the Kuropeans and the Maoris, and so that no blame shall be cast upon this Government. Because of the firm and discreet conduct of the Premier and the Native Minister with the meeting at Tβ Kopna, Rewi Maniapoto has come with pleasure to Anckland, and we are working at regulations by which peace shall be secured for both peoples. Let the same method be pursued now. Let there be concord amongst üb, that the word of the Psalmist may be fulfilled, —'Behold how good and pleasant it is for brethren to dwelt together in unity." That is all from us.— floßi Tawtti, M.H.R., Maihi P. Kawitt, Timoti Pamn, Rev. Wiremct Pomike, S. Li. Taiwhanoa, Rakena WißEsir; Kaitaia, RenataPure, Rato Whakaita, Nui Haxe, Poka tb Ripi, and all the chiefs of Ngapuhi and of Karawa."
