THE LEVEE.

At noon an undress levee was held by His Excellency the Governor. There was a large attendance, which testified the desire of the citizens to become acquainted with our new Governor. His Excellency was attended by the Rev. C. Meyaey.Thompson, private secretary ; Captain St. John, aide-de-camp ; the Hon. J. Sheehan, Native and Defence Minister ; Hon. Colouel Whitmore, Colonial Secretary; the Right Rev. Dr. Cowie, Bishop of Auckland; Mr. Justice Gillies, and Captain Cook (H.M. s. Emerald); Kewi Maniapofco and other influential Maori chiefs were also present.
