THEATRE ROYAL.—ENGLISH COMIC OPERA.
There was a fair house on Saturday night to witness the " Sorcerer," which, as usual, was a eucoess— the daets, trios and choruses being received with load applause. The quintette in the second act was vociferously encored. We obasrve that there was no piano accompaniment. This circumstance uerioußly affects some of the finer and more delicate passages. There are, no doubt, reasons for economy where the expenses thrown upon a body of amateurs are so heavy, but the absence of the piano accompaniment is reillv an important defect. But the performance "in excellent ; everything is done with so much spirit and completeness, otherwise we feel somewhat reluctant to find fault. Mr. Hodson, as John Wellington "Wells (the commercial Mephistophelea), created great merriment; Mr. Riccardi was inimitable as Dr. Daly, and Mr. Harding, as Sir Marmaduke ; and Mr. Craiu, as Alexis, were thoroughly effective. Miea Leaf, Mias Hunter and Miss Teague deserve the same recognition. "H.M.S. Pinafore " and Offenbach's charming operetta, "The Rose of Auvergne," will be performed to-night for the last time.
