The Abbe, on learning what the Duke had said, sent in the following bill: —' For 600 bottles of Burgundy, 0000 ; for the bottles, 0000; for transport to the Palais Royal, OOOOf. total, the Abbey of St. Michael.' The Regent, on reading this bill, laughed heartily, and exolaimed, ' Capital; it is really dog-cheap 1' and signed the appointment on the spot, thus conferring on the Abbe de Broglie a benefice of £1200 j a-year, that coat him absolutely nothing."
