MORE THREATS BY TE PUNA NATIVES.

| The Bay of Plenty Times of Tuesday has the following : —" Intelligence was brought to Tauranga yesterday afternoon by Mr. Cameron, who is in the employ of Mr. William Esdaile, of Te Puna, that the natives there have again warned Mr. Esdaile to leave bis farm, accompanying their notice with the threat that if they did not find him away by this morning, they would at once proceed to burn his residence, and take forcible possession of the land. Wo also learn on good authority that the workmen on the Te Puna Road have again been interfered with, and the work stopped. As might naturally be expected, the news created a good deal of excitement in town, and it was generally felt that it is high time to adopt measures for the protection of the lives and properties of the inhabitants in case of an outbreak. A requisition was prepared in tbe course of the evening to the Chairman of Tauranga Town Board, asking that a meeting of the residents should be convened 'to take into consideration the best means of protecting the lives and property of the settlers from outrages on the part of disaffected natives in Te Puna and elsewhere.' The requisition was in due course presented to Captain Norris, but that gentleman declined to move in the in:;'.tor without first interviewing Major Roberts, to whom he considered the requisition should j have been addressed."
