M.unro. lato M.H.R. for Marsden, died on : >uuday evening, the 20th inst., at his residoucj, Whangarei Heads ; having been in very ff.eble health of late, his death was not ud oxpjctcd. Ho was, we ard inform ed, quite sensible, and in the intervals of pain spoke composedly of his approaching death. Only a few months since you chronicled the death of Mrs. Munro, his late wife ; another old couple who having lived to a ripe age happily together, have gone from amongst us nearly at the same time. Mr. Muuro w_'3 well known all over this colony, and as widely respected as a politician. From the the timn he arrived in the colony, in December, 1557, he had held a seat in tlie Provincial or General Legislature, and for many years in both ; uutil very lately he was i mumbjr of the House of Kopreseutatives for Marsden. He was a man of disinterested motives as a politician, and hiving a most agreeable minuer, ho made strong friendships, many of them only ending with life. [ii some rcßpocta Mr. Alunro, when at his bist, had few bis fund of anecdotes was comparatively unlimited, and ho was uavor at a for an illustration in conversation or writing. His knowledge and acquaintance with tho anci-nt loro, particularly of Scotland and Highlands, made him a most pleasant companion to young and old. As to his efforts and success as a, politician in tho cause of the struggling settlers in Sew Zealsnd, it is too soon to write; sufficient to state that he was the friend of the poor, the helper of overy one who needed his assistance. He will loug be held in grateful remembrance by his fellow colonists.
