THE STRIKES IN ENGLAND.

L cablegram from London, dated the 9:h qat ant, gives the following information : — 'he decision of the colliers at Barnsley, on ilonday, not to submit to a redaction of (rages, has already sent up the price of coil, ■nd, in the event of a Btrike, it is expected hat prices will rise rapidly, because the tocks are very low. The goods guards of he Midland Railway have resumed work at towsley and Kettring. These are two of he most important shunting places on the oad, and as work has been resumed there, he strike is considered by the railway ifficials as broken up. The men have also esumed work at Carlisle, Skipton, and everal other places. Applications for vork are being made by the men it Leicester. The dockyard labourers it Hall have returned to work on ;heir employers' terms. The coal-masters it Sheffield have telegraphed the delegates if their workmen that it will be unnecessary :or them to attend Thursday's meeting, as ;he determination of the men to resist is already known to the masters. The men save now been asked to consent to arbitration, but have not yet given an answer to ;he proposal. The signalmen at Leicester, which is an important railway junction, have •esolved to wait the result of the conference with the directors on the 14th inst., before quitting work. This is a heavy Wow to the •ailway strike. The railway signalmen in London have decided not to strike unti. iffcer the interview with the directors on the L4th inst. On the other hand, great disorganisation of traffic is reported.
