THE TARANAKI CRICKETERS AT THE THAMES.

[BY TELEGRAPH, FROM OCR CORRESPONDENT.] Thames, "Wednesday. Tiie cricket match between the Taranaki team and 11 of the Thames Cricket Club, was played at Parawai to-day. An excellent wicket had been prepared, and the weather was all that could be desired. Play commenced at half-past 10. The t033 was -won by Mr. Whitford, captain of the Thames team, who elected to take the field. The I'aranaki Ist innings closed for SI runs. Riddiford played well for 18. Davis played a careful innings for 11, and Cunningham also played carefully for 10. Both Whitford and Spencer bowled well, especially the former, who took three wickets for 7 runs, with 30 balls. The Thames men commenced their inning 3 at 20 minutes to 1, and were all out in 50 minutes, for a total of 35 runs. F. Bayly bowled splendidly, taking no fewer than seven wickets for 6 runs. In their secon-i innings, the Taranaki team made 124 runs. Harrison played good cricket for 32, but was finally splendidly bowled by Smeaton. Davis played well for his 19 ; North wood stoa lily for 31. In their second innings, the Thames men scored OS for the los 3 of five wickets. George Spencer played a really faultless innings for 26. Lawless, who was in with him, also played carefully, for 17. The display of cricket at this time was perhaps the best during the day. The bowling on both sides, although good, was not brilliant.
