VOLUNTEER INTELLIGENCE.

The monthly inspection pa'ados for December were held by Major Withers in the Drill Hall last week. C i 0 20 4 79 247 370 The Artillery Company and their Band, under Captain Burns and Lieutenant Payne, proceeded to the North Shore on .Saturday afternoon, and had a shot and shell practice with their 6-pounder field-piece. Wo are glad to learn, says tbe Thames Evening Star, from Captain Watson, that the new uniforms for officers and members of No. 2 Thames Scottish are on board the s.s. Kent, for Melbourne, and may be expected by first trip of tho Hero from there. In addition to uniforms for No. 2, the case also contains some new pattern brass instruments for the battalion band, new regulation big drum, with patent fixings, with leopard skin for drummer's apron ; also some now pattern drummers'suits. There are also sword and shoulder belts for officers, materials for honorary colonel's suits; also, regulation claymore. _ All the laee aud ornaments for officers' suits aro strictly in accordance with the War Office dresj regulations for the Highland Brigade, and the members' suits aro exactly the same as the 93rd Highlanders'. RIFLE MATCH. On Saturday afternoon a sweepstake rifle match was fired at tho Mount Eden Range. Tho entrance fee was fixed at ss, and the prizes were 50 per ccnt.. 30 per cent., and 20 per cent, on tho amount raised. The ranges were 200 yards, 300 yards, 400 yards, aud 500 yards ; five shot at each range ; S-inoh biill's-eye at the 200 yards and 3)0 yards.' There were 10 competitors, and some really good shooting was made. On perusing the scores, it will bo remarked what a great number of these there were, there being no fewer than six.
