MYSTERIOUS DISAPPEARANCE.
The London police are at present engaged in an attempt to unravel the mjsterious disappearance of a laily and gentleman. On March 1 lth, Mr. Arthur Grey, eon of Colonel Grey, of Warwick-square, Belgravia, left his home for the purpose of proceeding to his chambers in King's Bench Walk, Temple, where he is studying the law. After remaining in the Temple for a short time he, it ha* since been elicited, proceeded to the house of General Ward, Talbot-road, Westbourne park, whence he and Mrs. Ward travelled by train to Hammersmith. They engaged a boat at Hammersmith-bridge, for the purpose of rowing to the Cedars at Putney, his father's country house, and on their arrival there the boat was left in charge of a man. They remained at the Cedars for an hour, and since they re embarked on the boat nothing has been heard of either of them. The matter was placed in the hands oE Detective Sergeant Marshall, of Scotlandyard, who has ascertained that about five o'clock on the following morning the boat was found keel upwards near the bridge, aud was returned to its owners. For the past fortnight Marshall has engaged a aumber of boats to drag the river, but up to April 3 no bodies had been recovered. One of the oars of Ike boat, Mr. Grey's hat, and Mrs. Ward's bonnet and handkerchief, have been picked up off the Middlesex shore of the river. Mr. Grey was only twenty-three
years of age, and the lady twelve years his senior. Although the deaths of both the above persons have been publicly advertised, the fact of the bodies not having been found causes doubts to be entertained concerning them.
