THE AUCKLAND COPRA WORKS, FREEMAN'S BAY.
To many the first intimation of the existence of copra works in Auckland—for the purpose of extracting oil from dried cocoanut and reducing the residue to a useful cake for cattle f ee d—was the exhibits which were made in this class at the Agricultural aud Pastoral Society's show. The works have now been in existence for six months. They have been started by Messrs. Owen and Graham, aud are now in full swing. The raw materia!, the coeoanuts themselves, are imported direct from the Soutl\ Sea Islands and delivered at the works, which are situated on the reclaimed ground which extends from Freeman's Bay, and here the whole process of treatment is carried on under the management of Mr. Uoacli, who has had a large experience in this trade.
