PARNELL GRAMMAR SCHOOL ATHLETIC SPORTS.

Athletic sports, open to the pupils of this school, were held yesterday, ill the Domain, and an excellent day's sport, and one which we feel sure was enjoyed by the boys, was the result. Though the programme was a long one, the events were got through with praiseworthy punctuality, and the interest evinced by the masters, Messrs. Adams, Bates, and others who were present, was not the least noticeable feature to the wellwishers of this school. Air. King lent valuable assistance, and gave the competitors the benefit of his experience. Perhaps the most noticeable features were the high jumping of Tarawhiti. better known by his football name of T. Kerr, aud the running of H. Gould in the Mile Race. The following is a list of sports, the distances are correct, the times appropriate :—

100 Varus.—Tarawhiti (scratch), 1 ; H. Gould, 14 yards, 2. 150 Yards.—F. White (scratch), 1 ; G. Kissling (scratch), 2. Hop Step and Jusir. —Tarawhiti, 1 ; A. Williams, 2. Distauce : 35 feet 8 inches. High Jump.—Tarawhiti, 1 ; S. Ludbrook, 2. Height: 4 feet 11 inches. The winner could certaiuly have done more. Long J ump.—Tarawhiti, 1; A. Williams, 2. A Sack-race was won by A. Williams; A. Lewis, second. Mile-kack.-—H. Gould (35 yards), 1 ; A. Williams (11 yards), 2. The winner led soon after the start, and won all the way by 00 yards. Time : smin. 30sec. Walking Rack(2 miles). —This resulted iu a splendid iace—Fairburn from scratch, just catching IT. James, IS seconds start, on the post, and winning by a short half-foot. Williams's team won the Tug of War. In conclusion, it is satisfactory to note that many of those who ligure prominently in the sports are high up in the school, aud evidently possess the confidence of tiieir masters. Ludbrook, who competed in many events, is captain of the school ; and Williams, Dufaur, Lush, and others, are well up iu the highest class.
