CAPTAIN BEAUON'S LAND CLAIM.
TO THE EDITOR. Sir, —I do not wish to publish any observations on the remarks which appeared in the IfKitAi.D of this morning—such .is " His Excellency tho Governor poking fnn nt the gnllant petitioner," &o.—in reference to so serious a subject as an inquiry into allegatiom which affect the honour of the Crown, and the interests of every person desirous nf maintaining the credit of the colovy. hi the interests of my children I have !eft my home at an advanced age, after retirement from aetivo sorvice, to seek redress for a gross and palpablo fraudulent conspiracy which was perpetrated on me in the name of tho Queen. But there are one or two statements in your paragraph which are calculated to give the public a wrong impression of my claim, and which I desire to correct. I ivas in New Zealand in 1537-S, not in 1S40; I was then engaged in tho war in China. The purchase of my land, as noted by my ngent, in my name, in tho Xew Zealand Government Gazette, was in 1539, before Now Zealand became a, British colony, not in IS4O, an stated. My agent vras legally superseded in 18-12, tho illegal withdrawal of my claim was in ISI-1, and not by my agent, as stated. To make the said illegal withdrawal valid, it would be necessary to make a limited power to purchase only, unlimited in the firat place, aud irrevocable in the second. Aly superseded agent was in India when my claim was withdrawn by another person having no authority from me.—l am, &c., Georgk Beadox, Captain K.N. July 28, 1577.
