WORKING MEN'S HORTICULTURAL SHOW.

On the 7th instant the annnal Working Men's Horticultural Show will be held in the Temperance Hall. To be eligible competitors for the prizes offered the exhibitors must bo mechanics or. artizans, whose hours of daily labour commence at S a.m. and close not earlier than 5 p.m. The following are some of the principal prizes offered by the committee :—" A prize of £2 2s for the best kept vegetable gardeD, in which the vegetables arc grown for the consumption of the family living upon the premises where grown ; a second prize, of £1 11s Gd, for the second best; a third prize, of £1 Is, for the third best. The person who took first prize for the best kept garden last year is not to be allowed to compete for a prize thh year Ihe parson who took second prize will only be allowed to compete for first place, and the person who took third prize will be allowed to compete for first or second place " Thursday was the day when the entries closed for the above prizes, with the following entries •— John Golding Willow-street, Freeman's Bay; Mr. Melville, Salo-street; Mr. Goring, kllerslie; Mr. Arch, storeman, Ponsonby ; Mr. McNab, corner of Napier and Sheridan streets; Mr. J. Trayes, stonemason, Sheridan-street; Mr. Currie, Lin-coln-street, Ponaonby; Mr. deal, Brownstreet, Springbank ; Mr. W. Gault, Howestreet; Mr. J. M. Clark, Kyber Pass Road; Mr. Hendry, Kyber Pass Road. Ihe judges are : Messrs. Purdie, gardener to Mr. Baird, Mechanics' Bay Nursery ; Gillespie, gardener, Government House ; Green, ilorist, Seafield View Nursery. Mr. W. Swanson, M. H.R., who has'kindly provided the prizes, will be likely to accompany the judges on Monday next, on their tour of inspection. The prizes are to be given on Wednesday evening, at the Temperance Hall, Albert-street, at which place the horticultural exhibition will be held. Protests by competitors against any of their number for non-fulfilment o£ conditions must be lodged with the secretary, Mr. D. Goldie, not later than Tuesday nest.
