MEETING OP SIR GEORGE GREY'S RECEPTION COMMITTEE.

An adjourned meeting of Sir George Grey's Provisional Reception Committee was held in ti' j large room of the New Zealand Insurance Company's building yesterday afternoon, —Mr. J. T. Boylan in the chair. The minutes of last meeting having been read and confirmed, The SecrM'AHY said he Ijad been informed by Mr. Clayton that the residents of Newmarket intended presenting Sir. George Grey ■with a testimonial on his return from Wellington. Messrs. ■Quick and Crowther had stated their willingness to assist in making the: Auckland demonstration a success by placing vehicles at the disposal of the committee. The Chairman tnei< read a number of telegrams which had been received since the last meeting. Amongst others was the following:—"Government Buildings, Wellington, Saturday night.—Messrs. Dignau, Rees, liUsk, Hamlin, Swanson, and O'Rorke go tonight by the steamer Taupo. Arrive on Monday night or Tuesday morning. The rest will follow oh Tuesday.—G. Grey. " Dr. Lee thought the best plan would be to adjourn till they could interview those of the members who were on their way to Auckland. They would then be in a position to resolve upon something definite. The Chairman said that' Mr. Shera had told him he would wire the result of his interview with Sir George Grey as soon as it should take place. Mr. David Goldie moved that the meeting should adjourn until more information as to Sir George's movements should have been received, the provisional committee still to continue in communication with the Superintendent. Mr. Morrison seconded the motion. Mr. Dempsey thought a committee should be formed to collect subscriptions.

Mr. Goldie considered this proposition ratter premature. Mr. Motus urged the desirability of convening a tmblic meeting at the Mechanics' Institute *„n the following evening, when decisive steps could be resolved on. He had seen in that morning's Herald a very good proposition. It was to the effect that the general public should be allowed to contribute by monthly subscriptions towards the amount that would be required for the proper carrying out of the demonstration. Messrs. Alexander Black, J. L. Tole, David Goldie, and George Williamson were added to the provisional committee. The meeting then dissolved.
