SUNDAY-SCHOOL ENTERTAINMENT AT REMUERA.

•A vehy agreeable entertainment was given last evening: in ,the Bemuera Presbyterian Church, in aid of the library Fund of the Sunday-school- The building was filled by an attentive and highly appreciative audience. The school choir, numbering 75 voices, were seated upon the stage in rows, each row rising above the one in front of it The children have evidently beea carefully trained, for they sang a numbe* of hymns and anthenis, some of them very difficult in really first-class style. Indeed we have no hesitation in saying that they would put to the blush the finest Sunday-school choir in Auckland. Under the careful- tuition of Mr. Saxon, the harmonist, the children have attained lo a high standard of excellence. In the course of his address the chairman explained that the object for which the entertainment was given was the purchase of new books for the library. With the proceeds they expected to be enabled to purchase 100 volumes. The gentleman an earnest and soul-stirring speech. After the last anthem had been sung,'the ladies and gentlemen present inspected a large number of articles, the work of the children, and which are to be placed in the forthcoming Sunday-school Union Exhibition. The display was highly creditable to the ingenuity of the little workers, and we predict that the Bemuera school -will carry off its full ' proportion of prizes. Amongst the specimens of fancy work deserving of special men tion were a very large and elaborate wool antimacassar, executed by a girl 14 years of age, some black lace, the production of the skilful fingers of a young lady, whose Christian name was Blanche, and over whose head only 12 summers had passed, and a handsome leather-work frame, enclosing one of the portraits of Sir George Grey lithographed at the Herald office. Besides these there were wool pictureß, cosies, various articles in bead work, some pencil samplers, besides many little items equally worthy of notice. We understand that tomorrow, Mrs. J. McCosh Clark will inepect the exhibits, and select the one she considers the best. To the lucky exhibitor a handsome prize will be presented. Mr. Dennes having made all the necessary arrangements, now exhibited by means of the lime light a large number of magic lantern views comprising scenes in the life of Mary Queen of Scots, representations of notable places in Scotland, and the Lakes of Killarney. The Lord Mayor's Show and a phantasmagoric picture, " The Wheel of Fortune," convulsed the little folk as well as the elders with irrepressible laughter. The words of a new National Anthem were then displayed on the screen, and having been sung by the whole assemblage, the Benediction was pronounced by the jßev. Mr. Horner, and a very enjoyable evening's amusement was thus brought to a close.
