MEETING OF MR. WELLS'S CREDITORS.

A meeting of the creditors of Samuel Wells was convened for yesterday afternoon, and in response to the circular about a dozen gentlemen put in an appearance at the office of the absconding debtor. Mr. Abbot was called to the chair, and asked those present to produce proof of their being creditors," in order to satisfy him as to their siatus at the meeting. Some of those present asked if it was necessary that documentary evidence should be put in, as many had come unprepared with this, and others had deposited money with Wells for investment without any receipt. The meeting overruled the demand of the chairman for the production of documentary evidence. The chairman then called upon each creditor to state the amount for which Mr. Wells was indebted to him. The amount represented at the meeting was £1712, of which £966 was unsecured, and £746 secured upon mortgages of property at Razorback, and in Newton. Exclusive of this there are known to be several country creditors, whose accounts will bring up the unsecured debts to £1200. .At present no available assets are said to exist, so as to' be divided among the unsecured creditors; Vbiit in order to ascertain if such be the case,, it: was decided to find out where the debtor's books are secreted. The debts proved at the meeting are of a very miscellaneous character," con-. sisting largely -of- P.N.'s, cash "deposited with Wells to be invested, and rents received by him while acting as agent. The chairman stated it would be judicious to appoint some one to dispose of the office fixtures, and to elicit information as to the estate } and in accordance with this, Mr. Ewington was proposed by Mr. Renshaw, but tailed to find a seconder, one creditor stating that he objected to that gentleman being appointed, on the ground (if he was"' correctly inforrhed) that Mr. Ewington had advised Mr. Wells to decamp. It wa3 ultimately moved that Messrs. O. W. Owen and Lamb bp instructed to elicit information as ' to' v the 'estate, and on a future day report progress to-the creditors.
